A month to go and I can't wait to rip some lip and beat fish around the back and head with the end of a gaff. Some might even end up in the boat. I've created this forum so we can post all our last minute questions and find answers. Ask away.
The meanderings, plans, anticipations and adventures of landlocked seafarers and pursuers of big fish.
Did you already ask about a freezer on the boat? I'm also wondering if there's one in the marina that we'd be able to use. -Joe
ReplyDeleteI did ask Bob this question a while back. Here was his answer: They used the two big iceboxes that are aboard. There is also a freezer portable aboard too, that plugs in.
ReplyDeleteHey, did anyone check to make sure US dollars are accepted everywhere we're going to need to purchase goods/fuel? -Dave
ReplyDeleteThe best way, is to bring U.S. dollars and your credit and debit cards. At CCC for example, they will accept credit cards, dollars or pesos. They will also exchange dollars for pesos. It is best to exchange dollars for pesos in Mexico as you will get the best exchange rate here. Exchange dollars at CCC for the best rates when you provision, or use one of five ATMs there (yes, I said, they are five in a row at the entrance to CCC). Most restaurants accept dollars & credit cards. Absolutely do NOT bring traveler's checks! They are not practical in La Paz because banks will not accept them from merchants.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the fuel cost will be deducted from our deposit. Bob says there will be no need to fuel up during the week because the boat has such good fuel economy. But Bob has never fished with us, so we shall see.
ReplyDeleteWhere are we going to meet up on the 12th? Is there an address or a specific marina? Has anyone checked about cell phone coverage (T-mobile) for the area? Who is going to tell my taxi driver not to eat the bait?
ReplyDeleteT-Mobile has some coverage in La Paz. Map and rates are here: (cut and paste into browser)

I'm pretty sure the boat is on the Malecon in down town. Just go there and listen for some gringos saying "Aw man this is so awesome." I'll get specific address and slip from Bob after we make our final payment.
ReplyDeleteAs for the bait, you'll have to keep in in a metal briefcase locked to your wrist.
What have we all decided on the menus?

ReplyDeleteShould we order the bait so we can get it in the freezer and so we are not worried about delyaed shipments?
ReplyDeleteWe can order it early next week. Feel free to check out www.baitmasters.com. I welcome your input on what and how much. Just be careful not to make a typo when entering the website. Dyslexia can get you into real trouble.
ReplyDeleteAny luck finding out who you guys used for transportation services before....I'm looking into possibly renting a car or getting that limo, or going to the bus terminal.
ReplyDeleteIs the cabin air conditioned?
ReplyDeleteBob's site has stated that air conditioning is "soon to be installed" for a very long time. Even when boats have air, they usually only work with shore power, which we will not have use of very often. So expect the answer to be "no". I sometimes bring a battery powered fan, which helps me sleep. Expect to be hot. And don't be asking us to go "Ice this baby down." (I'll fill you in one night over a bimini gin and tonic.)
ReplyDelete2 huricanes headed our way...
ReplyDeleteRough water makes fish hungrier.
ReplyDeleteIs the boat OK?
ReplyDeleteI emailed Bob about damage and here is his answer:
ReplyDeleteNo problems. As you may or may not know Jimena did not do a direct hit. It was certainly a big one one and at one time reached a "5" for about 12 hours. We had both boats down in Costa Baja. The guy who went the end of August for the week did not get any big fish , but a lot of smaller ones. Thanks Andrew.
